Charlie Bieger
I design and build iOS apps, and publish them as Apps by Charlie.
What I build
Apps by Charlie is the name I publish under. There are three apps. One is on the App Store and two are still being built. Each is made end to end by one person: the interface, the data underneath it, and the decisions in between.
Eagle One
A campus companion for Boston College students. Dining menus, live shuttle arrivals, coursework and campus alerts, arranged around the day you are actually having. Free on the App Store for iPhone, iOS 18 and later.
Eagle One is independent and unofficial. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Boston College or TransLoc.
Savory
A place to keep every restaurant worth remembering, and to decide between them. Send it a screenshot of someone’s list and it reads the names straight off the image. In development.
Wishlist
Save anything from any store with the share sheet. Wishlist watches the price and tells you the moment it drops. There is no list of supported shops. If the page has a price on it, Wishlist can watch it. In development.
How these apps are built
Three rules hold across all of them, and they are the reason the apps look the way they do.
No accounts. Nothing here asks you to sign up. There is nothing to sign in to, because there is no server holding anything about you.
No analytics. I do not measure what you tap. What an app stores it stores on your device and syncs through your own iCloud, where you can delete it without asking me.
Say what is actually known. When a source is late or quiet, the app says so instead of guessing. A blank dining hall in Eagle One usually means the university has not published that menu yet, and the app would rather tell you that than invent a meal.
Questions people ask
Who built Eagle One?
Charlie Bieger. It started because answering one question about a Boston College day meant checking four different websites, and it grew from there.
What is Apps by Charlie?
The name Charlie Bieger’s apps are published under, and this site. Eagle One, Savory and Wishlist are all his; Apps by Charlie is where they live and where their policies are.
Is Eagle One official?
No. It is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Boston College or TransLoc. Dining, transit and alert information can be delayed or unavailable, so do not rely on it for anything urgent.
Is there more of his work?
Yes. charliebieger.com is the rest of it: the brands, the products underneath them and the software that runs them. This site is the apps.
How do I get in touch with Charlie Bieger?
charlie@charliebieger.com reaches him directly. There is more about what to include on the contact page.
